About the role:

  • Supporting students during their induction and transition into College life, working closely with curriculum staff to help learners identify their career aspirations, planned destinations, and any barriers to learning. You will play a key role in supporting the College’s 42-day focus process to improve student retention and engagement.
  • Providing targeted support during the early stages of the academic year for students who enrol late or display signs of disengagement, helping them remain motivated and successfully continue on their study programme.
  • Monitoring and reviewing student attendance, punctuality, behaviour, and attitudes to learning, taking timely and appropriate action where necessary in line with College attendance and disciplinary procedures, with support from programme leaders and teaching staff.
  • Delivering engaging weekly tutorial sessions based on cross-college themes and a centrally developed tutorial programme. Topics include progression opportunities, employability, safeguarding, prevention of radicalisation, personal safety, bullying and harassment, and British values.
  • Adapting and developing Personal Development Group Tutorial resources and activities to meet the needs of different learner groups while maintaining a consistent College-wide approach.
  • Using digital platforms such as Google Classroom to support the delivery of the Personal Development Group Tutorial Programme, particularly in areas such as work experience and employability skills.
  • Building positive and supportive relationships with students through regular one-to-one tutorials, helping learners successfully complete all aspects of their Study Programme, including maths, English, work-related learning, and personal development requirements.

Essential Experience:

  • Experience of supporting, motivating and mentoring individuals against goals.  
  • Experience of handling difficult situations, including confrontation, in a calm and effective way.
  • I Proven experience of working in a busy environment, managing conflicting priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Proven record of willingness to take initiative, adapt and being proactive.
  • Proven record of working positively and collaboratively across internal teams, management, key stakeholders and colleagues developing and maintaining positive working relationships. Working together towards the same end goal.
  • Experience of working with various forms of communication including email, texting and telephone.
  • Direct experience of inputting data into databases, accurately and with good use of English.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Education to level 3 or above and/or a professional qualification in relevant subject area or equivalent
  • A Minimum of Level 2 qualification in English and Mathematics GCSE 4+ or C and above / CSE Level 1 / O-Level C or above / Level 2 Adult Numeracy or Literacy or equivalent
